Write-behind cache.

Writes go to the cache immediately and are flushed to the database asynchronously, often batched; fast, but unflushed writes can be lost.

the two-minute refresher

Lowest write latency: the client is acknowledged once the cache has the write.
Batching absorbs write bursts and spares the database.
Risk: if the cache dies before flushing, acknowledged writes are lost.
Fits counters, metrics and activity data; not money.
